Otomi by Lauren Oesterling

USA

USA

My design was inspired by the folk art of the Otomi people. The Otomi are a tribe, indigenous to the Central Mexican Plateau. Their designs reflect the flora and fauna of their region, as well as their culture. Similarly, my design is reflective of the animals, landscape, and colorful vegetation native to the places I have lived; namely Georgia, Florida, and Wisconsin where I grew up. Color is a vital component in any design, especially this piece. My objective was to make a design that was flexible, easily translated into different colors, and could fit a variety of interior design styles. Black, tangerine, and dark periwinkle blue were colors that fit the bill. They would not only give a pop of color to neutral, and contemporary interiors, but could also add some personality to a children's room.
